Meet the new Lex Luthor

The first official photo of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor has been unveiled.

Keith Staskiewicz, writing for Entertainment Weekly:

Eisenberg might not be the first person you’d think of to play the supervillain, but he did have experience portraying a morally challenged billionaire in The Social Network. And this edition of the follicularly challenged megalomaniac taps into a similar hyperintelligence mixed with malignant straight shooting.

If it wasn't for his performance in The Social Network, I would have had major doubts about him pulling off a role like Lex Luthor. But given the direction that Snyder took with Man of Steel, I honestly think he could surprise the majority of people, just as Heath Ledger did as the Joker in The Dark Knight

Of course, the best thing about Lex as a villain is that he truly believes that he is the hero of the story, protecting us from the subjugation of this alien intruder. Whilst I'm sure that Jesse Eisenberg will garner a lot of comparisons with Gene Hackman, I feel that he will in-fact be a far more intense version of the Luthor we saw played by Michael Rosenbaum in Smallville.
