One battle turned the tide of war.
MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.
“Pearl Harbour is the greatest intelligence failure in American history.”
For some reason, I love the delivery of that line in the trailer. We’ve had movies about Pearl Harbour before, but this film looks really intense, emotional, and visually stunning. My first reaction to the trailer was how incredible and realistic the attack on Pearl Harbour looks, quickly followed by the reality-check of how horrific that attack must have been in real-life. To have that kind of reality-check within the first 30 seconds of the trailer gives me high hopes for the quality of the film.
It’s directed by Roland Emmerich, and whilst his movies are usually hit or miss, the ones that do hit (such as Independence Day), hit big. It honestly looks great and I sincerely hope it gets an IMAX release (and would ultimately be surprised if it didn’t).
