Although it was originally intended to be the first of a new spin-off trilogy, Disney’s recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox has now made this the thirteenth and final entry in the X-Men film series.
Starring Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones fame and Anya Taylor-Joy from Split and Glass, The New Mutants takes a horror spin on the X-Men franchise. It was originally slated for an April 2018 release, but they opted to delay it for a couple of years to allow for reshoots to make the film more frightening.
As someone who’s loved the X-Men film series, I’m looking forward to seeing a horror-take on the mutants and hope that it serves as a good swan song of sorts for the long-running franchise before Marvel reboot it in the way they do best.
