Saving the world from witches is a tall order for a boy they’ve tuned into a mouse.
Based on Roald Dahl's 1983 classic book 'The Witches', the story tells the scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven year old boy who has a run in with some real life witches!
Roald Dahl was one of my favourite authors growing up, and The Witches was one of my favourites. The effects in the original 1990 movie were also hauntingly good and made me really uncomfortable as a child. My sister and I once went through a phase of quoting it, especially if we were fighting and one of us called out for mother, prompting the other to say “she can’t hear you” a la the great Anjelica Huston.
This time around one of my favourite directors Robert Zemeckis will be adapting the 1983 Ronald Dahl classic with Anne Hathaway portraying the Grand High Witch. With today’s effects and makeup and with Zemeckis at the helm, here’s hoping it remains as horrifying as the original.
